BOWERY POETRY CLUB
Three new books on Three Rooms Press and we're having a blowout party to help them explode into to stratosphere on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 7:30 p.m. at Bowery Poetry Club (308 Bowery, New York, NY (212) 614-0505).
“A Year On Facebook" by Peter Carlaftes (Three Rooms Press) is a hilarious journey through the hysterical daily Facebook status updates of the author, who became a viral Jonathan Swift through his irreverent social, political and just plain "out-there" observations. It's packed with side-splitting illustrations, and "interactive" pages that will leave readers howling with laughter. As one summed up, "I wonder if you know, Peter, how many times you make me laugh out loud with your status updates. Guess it doesn’t matter. Just keep me laughing, please. :)"
“Poppin' Johnny” by George Wallace (Three Rooms Press) is a stunning collection of muscular poetry. Beat musician David Amram declares, "Jack Kerouac would have loved him."And poet David St John observes, "[Wallace] is writing with the same conversational dictions that arose/arise from the work of William Carlos Williams, and yet he gives his poetry an absolutely contemporary flavor."
“Recreational Vehicles on Fire” by Jane Ormerod (Three Rooms Press) offers a cool vibe of concrete poetry, with 27 poems comprising her first full-length collection to date. Described by Metro/Silicon Valley as "A gritty and gutsy postmodern poet," Ormerod's work fascinates with its daring no-holds barred approach, where seemingly disparate images collide in unfathomable juxtapositions.
UPDATE: Just added: special guest performance by Jim Bob Dixie, reading from his new novel "The Big Sumbitch and Me" (Publish America).
With Bob Musial and the J.D.'s providing musical entertainment, plus rollicking host Kat Georges, it'll be a regular riot! Whew!
Doors open at 7:15. Show starts promptly at 7:30. Tickets $8 at the door. For details, including author interviews, review copies and media kits, email threeroomspress@mac.com.
