Poet Maria Gregorio rocks the Pony This Friday at Cornelia Street

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2009
6 PM | CORNELIA STREET CAFE
SON OF A PONY
Featured reader: Maria Gregorio
PLUS
NYC's Best Open POETRY Mike
Host: Kat Georges

Maria Gregorio writes in a subtly sensual tone, covering the themes of loss, love, family, relationships, violence in the home and in the world. She also brings issues of politics, race and immigration into a vivid palate which pushes us to consider the point of view of the poem, whether one agrees with it or not. Gregorio published three poems in Voices of Brooklyn: Writings from the Women of Color Writers’ Workshop, published by Face2Face press in September 2000. In November 2000, she was awarded honorarium by the New School University Writing Program and was a featured poet for the publication. She works as a social worker and has performed her poetry to a wide range of audiences in London and New York City. She has recently recorded a CD of her work.

The featured reading by Gregorio follows an the fabulous Son of a Pony open reading at the cafe. Poet/convivial mistress of ceremonies Kat Georges hosts. Doors open at 5:45 p.m.; the open reading begins at 6 p.m. Admission is $7, which includes a free drink.

Cornelia Street Cafe is at 29 Cornelia Street, between W. 4th Street & Bleecker, just around the corner from the W. 4th Street subway station. Phone: 212-989-9319. www.corneliastreetcafe.com
