The world is hurtling in a direction that simply isn’t sustainable. DADA came from the absurdity of war, and the destruction to the planet right now is absolutely war, with potentially billions of victims. And so, the theme for MAINTENANT 14 is:

Put your protest into the absurd art and writing that has made the annual MAINTENANT series critically-acclaimed around the world. Everyone in the world is affected by the growing impact of climate change, pollution, plastics, and lack of sustainability. We are seeking submissions from every country, every continent, and every artist. DADA is a “final frontier” for rebel artists. You are invited to expose, identify, retaliate, overcome, and react to the FUTURE OF THE PLANET!! The more absurd, the better it will work for the absurdity happening all around us.

Three Rooms Press—the fierce New York-based independent publishing house inspired by Dada, punk and passion—presents an evening of incredibly provocative, disruptive and eclectic art and performance at the third annual ¡DADA! LONDON INVASION Saturday, Sept. 2, 6:30 pm, at the maverick London progressive arts venue The Horse Hospital. Costumes encouraged. Admission is £5.

The event promises to be a wild ride of contemporary Dada performance and poetry, celebrating the latest edition of MAINTENANT, an annual international journal of contemporary Dada writing and art. Performers from the UK and US will be featured, including performance artist-poet Jane Ormerod, poet and sci-art specialist Valerie Laws, jazz poet Jazzman John Clarke, poetry film director Zata Banks, provocative visual and performance artist Becky Fawcett, poet-photographer Derek Adams, and poet-performance artist Cathy Dreyer. Additional performers include poet-performance artists Zata Banks, Sam Dodson, Katy Evans-Bush, Winston Plowes, and Deborah Sibbald. The program will also include a special performance by critically-acclaimed musicians Santa Semeli and Friends. New York-based authors Peter Carlaftes and Kat Georges, co-directors of Three Rooms Press, will host and perform.

The event includes the London launch of the internationally-renowned MAINTENANT 11: Journal of Contemporary Dada Writing and Art (2017, Three Rooms Press), which features more than 150 visual and literary works by artists and writers worldwide on this issue’s theme “Eye for a Lie.” The journal will be available for purchase and signing at the event.

The original Dada movement peaked from 1916-1922, primarily involved visual arts, literature—poetry, art manifestoes, art theory—theatre, and graphic design, and concentrated its anti-war politics through a rejection of the prevailing standards in art through anti-art cultural works. Its purpose was to ridicule what its participants considered to be the meaninglessness of the modern world. In addition to being anti-war, dada was also anti-bourgeois and anarchist in nature.

ORIGINAL DRAWING by MARY BEACH (1989) will be available at Silent Auction on Wednesday May 7th at The Gallery @LPR (7-9:30pm). Three Rooms Press is excited and honored to present this rare opportunity to own an original work of art from one of the most accomplished women artists of the latter-part of the 20th Century. The bidding will start at $500. Claude Pélieu and Mary Beach met in 1962 and, until Claude's unfortunate passing in December of 2002, shared an exemplary rich and creative life. Traveling extensively while living primarily in Paris, New York and San Francisco, their existence was a bohemian adventure during which they ceaselessly explored and continuously created: With a keen and graceful eye they deconstruct, critique and reinterpret the classical and contemporary worlds of art and media, while creating striking new works of wit and beauty -- drawing subconscious associations that are both mysterious and poetic. Long hailed in Claude's native France as the natural inheritors of the Surrealist legacy (a direct line has been drawn by French critics from Picasso and Braque to Schwitters and Duchamp to Warhol and Pélieu), their works are highly prized and respected. However, in Mary's native America, the pair remains relatively unknown, their work still awaits discovery by both mainstream critics and collectors. Calling All Surrealists: Surreal Poetry Party This Saturday 10/20/12

Three Rooms Press and the Seligmann Center for Surrealism present a SURREAL POETRY PARTY, Saturday, October 20, 7 pm. Featured poet/performers include three of NYC's most cutting edge dada/surrealists Kat Georges, Peter Carlaftes & Jane Ormerod (all published by Three Rooms Press). The event will be hosted by Janet Hamill. 

PETER CARLAFTES is a New York-based screenwriter, playwright, actor, poet, and director. He is the author of 12 plays, including a noir treatment of Knut Hamsun’s Hunger, and the celebrity rehab center spoof, Spin-Dry. He has appeared in numerous Off-Broadway productions, including his comic solo performance piece, Lenny Bruce: Dead & Well, as well as Barefoot in the Park and Stephen Adly Guirgis'  Den of Thieves. As an author, Carlaftes has penned three books: A Year on Facebook (humor), Drunkyard Dog (poetry) and Triumph for Rent (3 plays). He is a co-founder and co-editor of Three Rooms Press.

KAT GEORGES is an NYC poet, playwright, performer and designer. In New York since 2003, she has directed numerous Off-Broadway plays, curated poetry readings (including the bi-monthly Son of a Pony poetry reading series at Cornelia Street Cafe), and performed widely. She is co-founder and co-editor of Three Rooms Press; their most recent books include Maintenant 6: A Journal of Contemporary Dada Writing and Art; Have a NYC: New York Short Stories; and Mike Watt: On and Off Bass, a collection of photos and distilled tour diaries from the great punk rock bass player. Her most recent book is a full-length poetry collection, Our Lady of the Hunger.

JANE ORMEROD is the author of the full-length poetry collection, Recreational Vehicles on Fire (Three Rooms Press, 2009), the chapbook 11 Films (Modern Metrics, 2008), and the spoken word CD Nashville Invades Manhattan.
